Lavender Oil

Scientific name: Lavandula augustifolia (most common cultivar)

Origin: widespread Old World

Uses: The complex makeup of compounds found in lavender oil are useful for easing tension, agitation and stress. Used externally, it can help improve mood and promote sleep. Lavender oil should not be taken internally. Synthetic versions, though they may smell similar, don’t carry the therapeutic effect that pure lavender oil does.

Suggested Uses: Diffuse at night for a calming nighttime atmosphere. Tension headache? Soak a towel in very warm water with Epsom salts and lavender oil. Squeeze out and wrap around the back of the neck for a muscle relaxing tension soothing treatment.
